During the summer of 2019, a research team from the University of Montana (UM) collected data on the number of hikers using multiple trails throughout Glacier National Park (GNP). This was the ninth year of trail-use data collection by UM in GNP, and the fourth year when trails were monitored both inside and outside the Going-to-the-Sun Road (GTSR) Corridor. Similar to previous monitoring efforts, data was collected using infrared trail counters from the TRAFx company. The trail counters were calibrated by a researcher in person or using a trail camera at the various sites. Type of calibration method depended on the intensity of trail use and the number of researchers available to physically calibrate at the site. All counts reported below have been adjusted based on these calibrations. The calibration factors appear in Appendix 1. This report contains data and analysis for trail use during 2019 on the following trails (20 in total): Apgar Lookout, Avalanche Lake, Bowman Lake, Bullhead Lake, Cobalt Lake, Grinnell Glacier, Hidden Lake, Highline, Huckleberry Lookout, Iceberg Lake, Johns Lake, Sacred Dancing Cascade Falls, Mount Brown Lookout, Scenic Point, Sperry, St. Mary Falls, Ptarmigan Tunnel, The Loop, Two Medicine-The South Shore, and Virginia Falls.
