The Southwestern Architectural/Historical Survey covers the areas on the western and southern fringes of Salt Lake City which have not been a part of previous architectural/historical surveys. For ease in discussing this "leftover" survey area, its two basic components–the Western Area and the Southern Area are identified, labeled, and dealt with separately in this report. In addition to this report, another important product of this survey is the file of structure/site forms which were completed for the ninety-seven buildings and sites in the area that were determined to be architecturally and/or historically significant. Those forms, which contain photographs, architectural descriptions, and historical data, are located in the offices of the Salt Lake City Planning and Zoning Department to aid in the preservation and planning efforts of the city. The structure/site forms and the research methodology used in this survey are the same as those used in the previous Central/Southern Survey, thereby providing consistency in the data-gathering and evaluation between the two surveys.
