"The Historic Preservation Symposium was held on September 03 & 04, 2008. It was a 2-day symposium where the first day was held in Koror State and the second day was held in Aimeliik State. The theme of the symposium was “Oidel a Kerresel a Uldelid el Klechibelau er Kid” (Transferring our Precious Cultural and Historical Heritage). The symposium accomplished its objectives by getting the input and commitments from key partners in the community from the top Government Officials and Traditional Leaders to the service providers. The Council of Chiefs, who by tradition are the sole custodians of all cultural and historical properties of Palau, were there to support the idea of preserving and protecting those properties, as well as to support the idea of continued efforts to safeguard what is rightfully Palauan heritage." Project funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Bureau of Arts and Culture/Palau Historic Preservation Program, Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs, Government of Palau, Republic of Palau, administered by the Pacific West Regional Office, National Park Service, U.S. Department of Interior (grant number 70-07-21663).
