By dissecting the plant into roots and leaves as well as taking a soil sample, the presence of metals can be seen throughout this system. Some of the elements shown to be present in the plant include Ca, Ti, Cu, Fe, and Zn. Other elements possibly present include Cr, Mn, Ni, Ga, and As. This suggests phytoremediation potential in Ammophila breviligulata, which can have further applications in removing contaminants from beachside environments.
