"The Oral History and Ethnography Section proposed to conduct a project along with the Survey and Inventory/Archaeology Section to survey and produce an inventory of cultural and historical sites and oral history in the interior of Aimeliik State. In order to fulfill this task it was planned that the professional Cultural Anthropologist will work with the historical preservation specialist in collection Aimeliik oral histories specific to new sites surveyed by the Archaeology and Survey team. This project aimed to conduct archival research on oral histories and related materials to Aimeliik State. This exercise helped in identifying research which has been previously completed in Aimeliik. It has better inform the research in a way to identify specific gaps in terms of oral histories and ethnographic information which was not collected and captures in previous work. Moreover it has helped the Oral History and Ethnography Section tailor a more focused questionnaire and refine goals to guide interviews and or community meetings. This project was significant for it gathers different written versions or elements of orals histories related to Aimeliik. Field work which involved interviewing elders and key people in Aimeliik community took place in March to July 2016 followed by transcription, translation, and write up of the report. Reviews of interview transcription were done done in August to September 2015." Project funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation grant to the Bureau of Cultural and Historical Preservation, Palau Historic Preservation Office, administered by the Pacific West Regional, National Park Service, U.S. Department of Interior (grant number P15AF00111/70-15-HPF).
