Rehabilitation of the Beauregard House

Lewis K and Trimmer E. 1994. Rehabilitation of the Beauregard House. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve protects the natural and cultural resources of Louisiana's Mississippi River Delta region. This report is an amendment to the 1978 Historic Structures Report (HSR) of the Rene Beauregard House and is based on the general rehabilitation approach set forth in that document. The requirement for an updated HSR arose when Congress appropriated funding for the protection and rehabilitation of the Beauregard House. Since the writing of the Historic Structures Report, the use and programmatic requirements of the structure have changed. This report outlines the current programmatic issues, as they relate to management decisions, preservation, the history of the Beauregard House and rehabilitation philosophies. This report documentation is the foundation for the rehabilitation construction documents. This report documents the on-site investigation and rehabilitation approach as defined by management. The overall approach to rehabilitation in this phase of construction is to install a fire and intrusion protection system, remove the 1957 partition walls, and replace missing architectural features. The floor plan will be that documented in the 1934 Historic American Building Survey (HABS) drawings. The rehabilitation design covers issues following the Inventory and Condition Assessment Program (ICAP) that was completed in 1991. The following document will describe the present preservation and architectural I issues, as well as construction details.
