The Micronesian Endowment for Historic Preservation (MEHP)

"The Micronesian Endowment for Historic Preservation (MEHP) is a nonprofit organization created to provide an on-going source of funding services, and expertise in historic preservation and other aspects of cultural resources management for the Micronesian cultures. The MEHP is devoted to recording, interpreting, and maintaining aspects of Micronesia's past and to regenerating it for the future. It is a focal point in the efforts to preserve Micronesia's history and culture. With the advice of international experts in anthropology, archaeology, history and other disciplines, the Endowments funds are allocated to programs on the basis of need and the requests of donors. The officially appointed Historic Preservation Officers of the Micronesian governments, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the four states of the Federated States of Micronesia (Kosrae, Pohnpei, Chuuk, and Yap), Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, make up the Endowment's Board of Directors. The Endowment is currently (as of 2003) working with the Smithsonian Institution, the US National Park Service and other prominent organizations on a wide spectrum of conservation projects relating to libraries, archives, museums and exhibition." Project funding was provided in part by Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Federated States of Micronesia Historic Preservation Office, administered by the Pacific West Regional Office, National Park Service, U.S. Department of Interior.
