This objective of this report is to evaluate the historical integrity of various buildings located in the Historic Entrance and Crystal Cave areas, Mammoth Cave National Park. Mammoth Cave National Park was established to preserve important caverns of national significance. The report describes several buildings and provides recommendations and evaluation. Photographs are included. Since Mammoth Cave's reputed discovery date prior to 1798, a number of built features such as the prehistoric salt mines, the saltpeter mining operations during the war of 1812, the tuberculosis hospital of 1843, and the historic train Hercules which operated until 1931 have been accepted as having historical significance worthy of preservation. All of these have been nominated to the National Register. In addition to these, several other structures exist that would seem to closely relate to the discovery, development or operation of the natural features for which the park was established. These include the old Hotel in the Historic Entrance area, Floyd Collins House, Ticket Office and several other structures in the Crystal Cave area.
