SEAN sea otter monitoring SOP 9: Estimating Occupancy and Abundance version 2.0

Womble JN, Williams PJ, Eisaguirre J. 2020. SEAN sea otter monitoring SOP 9: Estimating Occupancy and Abundance version 2.0. NPS SEAN. Juneau, Alaska

This SOP describes how to estimate spatio-temporal occupancy and abundance of sea otters in Glacier Bay National Park. The methods used to estimate spatiotemporal occupancy and abundance are described in detail in Williams et al. (2017a), Williams et al. (2017b), Williams et al. (2018), Womble et al. (2018), and Lu et al. (2019). Data for estimating spatio-temporal occupancy and abundance consists of eight design-based surveys, in which data were collected during 1999–2004, 2006, and 2012, and seven distributional surveys in which data were collected in 1993, 1995–1998, 2005, 2009–2010, and future aerial photograph data to be collected beginning in 2017. The design-based surveys and distributional surveys were conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey. The analysis of the data can be conducted using the package (spatio-temporal occupancy abundance) in R statistical software.
