Minute Man National Historical Park protects 970 acres in and around the Massachusetts towns of Lexington, Lincoln, and Concord, commemorating the opening battle in the American Revolutionary War. The purpose of this report is to assemble and interpret all of the known information concerning the grounds of the Hartwell Tavern. Because the basic documents contain few details that relate to the buildings and other cultural features and their location, a certain degree of conjecture is apparent in the narrative. The immediate objective of this study is to provide background information for an archaeological examination of the subject grounds.
