Minute Man National Historical Park protects 970 acres in and around the Massachusetts towns of Lexington, Lincoln, and Concord, commemorating the opening battle in the American Revolutionary War. This report concerns the Ephraim Hartwell Tavern. The report gives biographical information on Hartwell, as well as the property history of the tavern. This comparative study of period taverns was prepared as the author realized that little documentation existed on the interior of colonial taverns. NPS historians had already established that Hartwell operated a tavern at his home from 1757 to 1772, but little information about the physical structure or interior use of the tavern rooms during the colonial period had been incorporated into the studies.
