Minute Man National Historical Park protects 970 acres in and around the Massachusetts towns of Lexington, Lincoln, and Concord, commemorating the opening battle in the American Revolutionary War. The almost total destruction of the Samuel Hartwell House by fire on the night of February 18, 1968 created an emergency problem at the Park of how to cope with the remaining structure. This report, with preliminary reconstruction drawings included, proposes the initiation of an early reconstruction based upon a partial architectural research of the building remains conducted by the writer in April 1968. After the property is purchased, additional research will need to be done when the structural members of the building can be salvaged and studied for more information.
