"The project consisted of completing the upgrade of the outdated Montana State Antiquities Database to a newer web-based platform, featuring a fully developed map interface and integration of documentation on recorded cultural resource sites and surveys, although with tracking of project data and National Register eligibility findings. In addition to descriptive and locational information on over 59,000 recorded historic, archaeological and traditional cultural properties, the statewide database stores and provides access to over 37,5000 survey, inventory, and research reports. As the primary repository and clearinghouse for cultural resource information in the state, the Montana State Antiquities Database is the foundation on which historic preservation planning and decision-making is made at the state level." Project funding was provided in part by the Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Montana State Historic Preservation Office, Montana Historical Society, administered by the State, Tribal, Local Plans and Grants division (grant number P17AF00012).
