This report gives maintenance preservation recommendations for the Longmire Campground Comfort Stations at Mount Rainier National Park. The Longmire Campground Comfort Stations (L-302, L-303 and L-305) were erected in the thirties by the NPS and the CCC between 1930 and 1935. No original drawings exist of the three similarly constructed buildings. All three buildings exhibit the same general maintenance problems: 1. The untreated, wood gable ridge caps are deteriorated to varying degrees. Flashing should be installed along the gable ride and preservation stain applied to the ridge caps. 2. The soil stacks above the roof line are inadequate. They should be reconstructed. Inspect flashing around soil stacks and replace as needed. 3. Remove debris and algae growth from siding and repair cracked or deteriorated wood. 4. Runoff needs to be channeled away from the buildings. Elements to be retained include: 5. "Rough capped" Douglas fir siding 6. Cedar shingle roofs 7. Projecting eaves and verges 8. Wood window frames, trim, and sills 9. Wood lattice screens
