AAS Environmental, Inc. (AASE), represented by Clifford Burns and Bill Maloney conducted soil and groundwater testing at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., from June 7 to June 13, 1994. Five groundwater monitoring wells were installed to depths of 25 feet below grade in evenly spaced locations on the West and South sides of the Memoral. Three additional soil borings were made to depths of 20 feet below grade on the East side of the Memorial. Soil samples were collected every five feet from the three borings and during the installation of three of the wells. Soil samples were collected continuously during the installation of the other two wells. The soil samples were analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH). No levels of TPH were identified in any of the 43 soil samples. After the wells had been fully developed (by pumping from the wells an amount of water equal to ten times their volume), a water sample was collected from each of the wells and analyzed for TPH. No levels of TPH were detected in the groundwater.
