The Richmond National Battlefield Park commemorates 13 American Civil War sites around Richmond, Virginia, which served as the capital of the Confederate States of America for most of the war. The park connects certain features within the city with defensive fortifications and battle sites around it. This part (two) of the architectural report is intended to supplement rather than take the place of part one, dated May 1, 1957. The revisions and additions out lined in the following pages should round out the whole story of the structural features of this historic building. It is important this report be used always with part one at hand since the only ground covered shall be differences of opinion or more often changes taken up because of new information not available to writers of part one. Designs for the three entrance stairs, as well as the basement entrance, are presented here for the first time. Some liberties have been taken in improving the latter to make the basement entrance taller and more convenient that it might have been originally. Also, having the kitchen and dining room in the basement allows us to keep the early appearance of the main floor largely intact.
