Historic Structures Report, Architectural Section: Holzwarth Ranch

Muths TB. 1979. Historic Structures Report, Architectural Section: Holzwarth Ranch. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service

This Historic Structures Report concerns the Holzwarth Ranch, or Holzwarth Historic District. This group of structures is perhaps one of the best preserved examples of native genius in "make-do" construction in the west. Of no particular architectural style, the cabins were built as the need arose and in the most expedient manner possible - utilizing whatever materials were at hand. Much of the material was native - logs felled in the immediate vicinity and utilized for walls or run through Holzwarth's saw mill which was located on the site, and slabbed into lumber. This report gives existing conditions reports and provides recommendations for the structures going forward.
