"An agency of the Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, the Kentucky Heritage Council is responsible for identifying, protecting, and preserving historic buildings and structures, archaeological sites, and cultural landscapes throughout the Commonwealth. We do this by working in partnership with local, state, and federal agencies, preservation organizations, local governments, and interested citizens to rehabilitate and find new uses for historic buildings and turn them into community assets - key to sustainability, comprehensive planning, and economic development. KHC administers federal preservation programs in Kentucky including rehabilitation tax credits and incentives, the National Register of Historic Places, and federal Section 106 review. We have been a leader in Main Street revitalization, the preservation of military sites and rural resources, and in supporting research about and preservation of diverse resources, including sites associated with African American and Native American heritage. We also provide technical assistance and educational programming and have professional archaeologists on staff for prehistoric and historic archaeological research and investigation."
