Project Objective: "Historic Preservation Northwest's primary objective was to create an Assessment Report for the Plunkett House. The report is to be used to understand the restoration needs of the house and to develop a future use for the building." Assessment Overview: "David Pinyerd and Bernadette Niederer of Historic Preservation Northwest and Jerry O'Riordan and Rusty van Rossman of J&R Home Repair, LLC examined the Plunkett House in July and August 2019 at the request of the Benton County Community Development and Natural Areas and Parks Department. The Plunkett House is one of Benton's County's assets as part of the Beazell Memorial County Forest." General Observations and Recommendations: "The house was built circa 1875 and has held up well over 140 years considering what it has been through. The east side of the house is the only area in need of immediate attention. There are the major items that need addressing: above all, a future use for the house needs to be selected; the southeast corner of the house needs to have its siding temporarily removed and the structure examined, reinforced, and restored; landscape drainage around the southeast corner needs to be examined and likely regraded and mitigated; the non-historic interior finishes need to be removed and mold mitigated; and the exterior needs to be tightened up to the weather to keep out animals and moisture. Once these five items are addressed, the house will be in good order and ready for decades of future use. How to address these items s detailed in the pertinent sections within this report. A treatment priority section is presented near the end of the report, as is a cost estimate."
