Historic Buildings Report: War Cabin
Historic Buildings Report: War Cabin. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service
Shiloh National Military Park preserves the American Civil War Shiloh and Corinth battlefields. In 1862 many homes dotted the area which became the Battlefield of Shiloh, and it seems strange that only one should remain through the intervening years to be designated as the "War Cabin," for in truth this original house was destroyed during the terrible conflict while several other buildings withstood the storm of shot and shell. The following history, however, which has been collected from interviews of citizens who remember conditions as they existed at that time gives us all the information that can be obtained concerning this renowned house.
