Vicksburg National Military Park preserves the site of the American Civil War Battle of Vicksburg, waged from March 29 to July 4, 1863. The park, located in Vicksburg, Mississippi (flanking the Mississippi River), also commemorates the greater Vicksburg Campaign which led up to the battle. This Historic Structure Report concerns the Mississippi State Monument at Vicksburg National Military Park. The Mississippi State Monument is 76'-0" tall and is made of Mount Airy, North Carolina granite. Its base consists of a platform 40’-0" square surrounded by a balustrade 4'-5" high and made accessible by steps with three risers placed at the center of all four sides. Inside the balustrade and at the center of the platform the monument rises through six stages.
