Stabilization of Concrete Military Structures, Phase II: Stabilization Alternatives
Searls CL and Thomasen SE. 1991. Stabilization of Concrete Military Structures, Phase II: Stabilization Alternatives. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service
This report presents stabilization alternatives developed by Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc, (WJE), for twelve structures contained in the War in the Pacific National Historical Park, Guam. These structures are major contributors of significance to the park's properties on the National Register of Historic Places and are designated National Historic Landmarks based on their significance to World War n. The work was requested by the National Park Service (NPS) Western Regional Office, San Francisco, California. This report is based in part on work performed by WJE duringPhase I of this project as reported in, "Stabilization of Concrete Military Structures, War in the Pacific National Historical Park, Guam, Phase I: Investigation, Testing and Documentation", dated August 20, 1990. Two sets of measured drawings were produced; one showing the existing structures and a second set showing existing conditions. The purpose of this phase of the work was to develop stabilization alternatives for longterm preservation of the 12 structures examined in Phase L The scope of work included, for each structure: a review of information generated in Phase I, development of stabilization alternatives for Category 1 and 2 structures, an opinion of probable cost of stabilization alternatives, an analysis of the various alternatives and recommendation of a preferred alternative. All findings generated in Phase II are presented in this report. Phase in of this project will consist of the preparation of construction documents for the preferred stabilization alternatives generated under Phase H. All reports and information developed will be used in consultation under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 as amended in 1980.
