Historic Structure Preservation Guide: Instructions and Form, Technical Manual: Norris, Madison, & Fishing Bridge Museums

Yellowstone National Park is an American national park located in the western United States, largely in the northwest corner of Wyoming and extending into Montana, and Idaho. The inspection, maintenance, and technical information given in this preservation guide is meant to be only a guide - not a substitute for sound judgment in maintenance procedures. How-to-do-it techniques for generally accepted maintenance procedures such as painting, replacing window glass, shingling, etc. are not described here. They can be found in general construction literature and in CSI specifications. The intent of this guide is to describe how those same procedures differ on historic and non- historic structures. For example, the technique for painting is the same for both but the decision on when to paint, what kind of paint to use, and what the finished job should look like is different. This guide is intended for the maintenance personnel responsible for the care of the three historic museum buildings at Yellowstone National Park - Fishing Bridge Museum, Madison Museum, and Norris Museum. Its purpose is to provide a system for knowing what needs to be done, for specifying precisely what can be done and at what frequency, and for planning future program costs. While what is to be done and when are management responsibilities and should not be delegated, collecting information on structural condition through inspection reports and carrying out specified maintenance procedures are the responsibility of the maintenance staff.
