Yosemite National Park is an American national park located in the western Sierra Nevada of Central California, bounded on the southeast by Sierra National Forest and on the northwest by Stanislaus National Forest. At the request of the Director, an Emergency Survey was conducted at Yosemite National Park from January 11-16, 1980. The team that conducted the survey comprised of safety and structural engineers, an estimator and concessions management specialists. The purpose of the study was to identify the primary problems associated with life safety, sanitation, maintenance and quality of accommodations in concessioner operated visitor service facilities; establish a tentative priority among those problems, and to develop approximate costs for their correction. The information provided illustrates the magnitude of the problems of the physical plant and will permit management to make informed decisions utilizing the following alternatives: 1. Abandon and demolish due to infeasibility of repair costs. 2. Convert to a less hazardous use such as day use. 3. Total repair. 4. Continued use during a phased program of renovation. 5. Accept a degree of risk in order to continue use of a building in its present condition.
