This purpose of the Shenandoah salamander monitoring protocol is to collect salamander and environmental data to better inform management decisions associated with the federally endangered Shenandoah salamander. Primary data are collected to allow estimation of the annual proportion of occupied habitat across the species range. Objectives focus on describing the status and trends of the species distribution (i.e., spatial extent) and the proportion of the species range that is occupied (i.e., density of occupied sites).
