The purpose of this report is to discuss four historical properties or themes that have been listed on the United States Indicative Inventory of Potential World Heritage nominations. These properties or themes include: Monticello, the University of Virginia, the "Chicago School" of early skyscrapers, and the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. The properties represent the range of American architecture from the late-eighteenth century to the mid-twentieth century as well as some of America's most notable examples of the country's best-known architects. Because of their national and international prominence, the properties have generated a substantial body of books, articles, and reports. In fact, the properties continue to attract the attention of scholars who seek to better understand their origins, influence, and significance.
