McClelland BR. 2014. Defending National Park Idealism: The Mystique: Memoirs from a Career in the National Park Service 1949-93. University of Montana
A unique idealism, a mystique, is the foundation of the National Park Idea. It will not survive without advocacy and consistent defense. These memoirs follow that theme in a nearly day-to-day record of the author’s experience working for the National Park Service and the University of Montana. Parts 1A and 1B cover 1949-1965, the period during which the author’s career goal was established, and subsequent years working for the National Park Service, primarily in Yellowstone National Park. Part 2 covers 1965-1993, during which the author worked for the National Park Service in Glacier National Park and for the University of Montana as a School of Forestry faculty member.
