Boundary-derived Areas of Analysis for National Park Service Units, Fall 2020
Kinseth M and Nelson L. 2021. Boundary-derived Areas of Analysis for National Park Service Units, Fall 2020. Data Release Report. NPS/NRSS/DRR—2021/09. National Park Service
This data report documents the acquisition, preparation, and creation of National Park Service (NPS) unit boundary-derived areas of analysis (AOAs) for use within the Inventory & Monitoring (I&M) Program. AOAs are created at the park level, and, 3km and 30km buffer of the park. The datasets are based primarily on the NPS administrative boundary data release from the NPS Land Resources Division (LRD) as of September 2020 and supersede all previous releases of AOAs used within the I&M Program. LRD boundaries or, in some cases, I&M operational boundaries, are used to create an integrated dataset of AOAs derived from NPS boundaries. These AOAs are used for a spectrum of I&M Program activities. This integrated dataset is the foundation for several activities undertaken by the Inventory & Monitoring Program, including the NPS Environmental Settings monitoring protocol (DeVivo et al. 2018) and the IMD Inventory 2.0 program (DeVivo 2019), as well as several efforts being conducted by networks and parks. AOA datasets documented in this report are intended only for use within the I&M Program and may not include all parks, units, or other areas of interest to the NPS.
