White-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) have been increasing in densities east of the Anacostia River., including Fort DuPont Park. Remote camera surveys were used to detect deer numbers and calculate the population and density in the park in the fall and winter of 2019. Surveys determined an estimated population of 103 deer with a density of 175 deer per square mile (0.667 deer per hectare).
