Historic Structures Preservation Guide: Fort Spokane
Florence H. 1983. Historic Structures Preservation Guide: Fort Spokane. Historic Structure Management Plan. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. Seattle, Washington
The Historic Structures Preservation Guide is designed to be a systematic plan for the management of the historic structures at Fort Spokane. It is designed to assure the continuous maintenance and inspection of these structures and to provide the people making decisions with information on their present condition and anticipated future needs. It also provides continuity of treatment, regardless of changes in maintenance staff or superintendent. The format consists of five separate but interrelated sections: The Introduction contains sections that describe what the guide is and how it is to be used. As the major text of the report, it should be read by everyone who is to use or refer to the guide. The second part, Maintenance Recommendations and Procedures for Repairs, contains written recommendation organized by the sixteen divisions of the Construction Specifications Institute. It responds to current and potential preservation problems at Fort Spokane. The third part, Drawings, Photos and Illustrations for Repair, contains visual information needed to illustrate problems outlined in part two. The fourth part of the guide contains the five Historic Building Portfolios. This part of the guide also contains building inspection forms, schedules for inspection and maintenance checklists. Specific recommendations are referenced to parts two and three of the guide. The Appendix, the fifth and final section of the guide, contains all pertinent reference materials. Inspections of the buildings included in this guide were conducted by regional staff personnel in 1983. Findings from these inspections formed the major focus for the guide.
