This report describes the stabilization considerations and work for the Stone Bridge at Manassas National Battlefield Park. Since the bridge played such a predominant role in the First Battle of Manassas, it was decided to forego any work on the bridge until after the 1961 reenactment of the battle to permit its use by the general public. A general agreement was reached on the nature of work and costs involved in order to stabilize the bridge. Two major problems were identified: the east arch had developed a serious crack on the north side, and the wall section to the northeast extending from the crown of the arch eastward was in a dangerous structural condition. The report describes the stabilization process by section of the structure, including materials and labor.
