This is the proceedings of the Mesa Verde Symposium on Anasazi Architecture and American Design, a multidisciplinary symposium held at Mesa Verde Park on May 17-19, 1991. The symposium focused on the place that Anasazi built environments have in the history of American architecture and urban planning, and the lessons that might be learned from ancient builders about making humane and ecologically safe new cities in the future. It was attended by archeologists, art and cultural historians, architects and landscape architects, urban planners, and writers. The symposium was jointly sponsored by Mesa Verde National Park, the Mesa Verde Museum Association, Inc., the Center of Southwest Studies at Ft. Lewis College, and the University of New Mexico's School of Architecture and Planning.
