This Architectural Data Section concerns the Wayside Barn (Building No. 47 on the Master Plan). It accompanies the Part I, Architectural Data Section on The Wayside, the Barn's parent structure which stands about twenty feet due west. This location of the Barn is its third known location since 1845 when it was moved by A. B. Alcott. It was moved to its existing site in 1860 by Nathaniel Hawthorne, then later remodeled by the Lothrops. As proposed in the Master Plan, the interior of the Barn would be utilized as a Visitor Contact Station to interpret the story of the Wayside. The report recommends further study of the structure to determine alterations over the years and plan rehabilitation, including the preparation of measured drawings, permit to remove architectural elements for study purposes, and archeological examination to determine the locations of former Barn sites. It includes interior and exterior photographs.
