This historical survey of Mt. Vernon Square has been completed pursuant to resource study proposal. National Capital Parks-Central, (RSP-NCP-C-H-7). It is designed to provide the management and interpretive staffs of National Capital Parks and National Capital Parks-Central with as complete a documentary report as is possible at the present time based on the financial limitations of the RSP and the availability of sources. The study covers the legal origins and administrative history of Mt. Vernon Square, the developmental stages in its landscaping, and It is specifically designed to meet the administrative and interpretive needs of the National Park Service, its value to the community. and to illustrate its historical significance
