This report is the result of a detailed inspection and analysis of pointing mortar failures at the Jefferson Memorial. These conditions are related to other problems in evidence in the structure and they are accordingly addressed. Sections of the report titled "mortar removal" and "mortar replacement" contain information and wording which may be used in the writing of contract specifications for the repair of the pointing. The additional problems described are spalling and cracking marble, stress in the structure, caulking failure, and maintenance systems and problems. Supporting documents are attached to this report in an appendix.
