This data was compiled to assist the National Park Service’s American Battlefield Protection Program (NPS ABPP) with their mission to promote the preservation of significant historic battlefields associated with wars on American soil. This GeoDatabase represents the polygon locations of the Updated Civil War Survey Battlefield Boundaries as of November 2020. This data has been confirmed for geographic and attribute information by the American Battlefield Protection Program and is organized in the NPS cultural resource spatial data transfer standards. NOTE: Users of this data should be aware that the battlefield boundaries identified in the Updated Civil War datasets have not been formally submitted to the United States Congress as of November 2020, therefore they are not suitable for use in determining whether a property is eligible for a Battlefield Land Acquisition Grant or other grant restricted to listed battlefield sites. Grant applicants should use the Civil War 1993 Survey feature datasets for this purpose.
