Introduction: "This is a summary report of the 2006 Historic Preservation Symposium that was held by the BAC at Bai er a Maiberel on August 8 & 9, 2006. The theme of this year's symposium was 'Mekreos el Odesebelel a Ibetel a Cherechar,' (Strengthening Preservation of our Precious Cultural Heritage.) The symposium had four main objective: 1) to build a close working relationship with our partners in protecting and preserving Palau's natural, historical, and cultural resources 2) to strengthen the ongoing dialogue and coordination among all partners in order to improve our efforts in carrying out our responsibilities; 3) to learn more about each other's roles and their work requirements and concepts; and 4) to enhance the education of the targeted partners in order to improve the general understanding of the importance of the Historic Preservation Program and its projects..." Project funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Palau Historic Preservation Office, Bureau of Arts and Culture, Ministry of Community & Cultural Affairs, administered by the Pacific West Regional Office, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior (grant number 70-05-20464).
