Summary of Achievements: "With the kind support from the National Park Service, the Palau HPO was able to utilize unexpended Professional Service Funds under FY'14 HPF grant to contract professional historical architects and structure engineers to stabilize two Japanese WWII buildings in Peleliu State. The building were listed in the 2013 Building Assessment Report needed urgent stabilization. The phase two of the project provided immediate stabilization to support the structures in order to slow down further deterioration or collapse. The project was conducted in June 2016. The project was successfully implemented through the partnership from the Peleliu State Government, National Park Service, Architexas Inc, and the Palau HPO. The established partnership with Architexas is a huge advantage because it allows the office to contract professionals to implement in-house projects particularly ones in historic architectural works in the Republic. The positive feedback from the state is an indication that projects like these are supposed because it ensure safety for the community and tourists visiting these areas while at the same time serve as shelters during natural disasters like typhoons." Project funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Palau Historic Preservation Office, Bureau of Cultural and Historical Preservation, Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs, administered by the Pacific West Regional Office, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior (grant number P15AF00022).
