In the fall of 2018 Joel Cusick demonstrated the capacity of terrestrial laser scanning technology to estimate size(ft3) of bears at Brooks River, Katmai National PP. An opportunity presented itself in Sept 2019 to conduct another demonstration at the Falls Platform using a higher speed Scanner (Trimble TX8). Scan returns from 5 brown bears (4 from the platform, 1 from beach) were processed in Trimble Real Works and a volume calculated from a Mesh (TIN) surface of the bear exposed to scanner.
