From the Introduction: "The Historic Preservation Symposium was held on November 12 and 13, 2014, a two-day symposium. This year marked the 10th year of the BAC symposium. The BAC office held the 2-day symposium in Koror State Assembly Hall. This year BAC focused on collecting data for the compilation of a five-year Palau Historic Preservation Plan. In addition, the symposium was to bring all state stakeholders, government agencies, NGO's, together to contribute to the discussion and decision of ways to preserve and protection our cultural and historical heritage. The theme of the symposium was 'Selchedekl el Dikesed' (Retaining Our Valuable Cultural Heritage). The venue for the two days symposium was at Koror State Assembly Hall, Koror State. The first day was an opening ceremony with guest speakers followed by presentations and group works. The second day was a continuation of group works, group presentations, and dialogue sessions, followed by wrap up session and closing with chants. The objectives of the symposium were: to educate the public and to make them aware of the importance of protecting and preserving Palau's cultural heritage and historic and cultural resources; to publicize the Bureau of Cultural and Historical Preservation programs and its mission; to continue to educate the key community leaders and to gain their support in regards to policy issues of related areas; to continue to create innovative ways to entice and motivate our young generation to respect and practice our customs and traditions so they can pass it on generation to generation; and to collect data for the compilation of Palau Historic Preservation Five Year Plan." Project funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Palau Historic Preservation Office, Bureau of Cultural and Historical Preservation, Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs, administered by the Pacific West Regional Office, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior (grant number 70-13-51964).
