Standard Operating Procedure 1.4.11 Tree Measurements—Version 1.1

Boyle MF. 2020. Standard Operating Procedure 1.4.11 Tree Measurements—Version 1.1. Southeast Coast Network

This standard operating procedure (SOP) provides instruction for how to collect and record data on canopy closure, average stand height, species presence, stem diameter, and condition of all live and standing dead woody stems greater than or equal to 10 centimeters (3.9 inches [in]) diameter-at-breast height (DBH), within each of the four modules of the 20 × 20 meter (65.6 × 65.6 feet [ft]) vegetation plot. These data are used to track tree growth, mortality, condition and stand composition over time. The datasheets used for this SOP include SECN Veg Form 3—Plot Photo Points and Canopy Closure Measures and Form 4—Tree Measurements and are in Appendix A of this SOP.
