Summary of Achievements: "This project was successfully completed with a final product of a booklet entitled 'Ngklel a Beluu er a Belau er a Rechoudel: Ngar er a Ked el mo er a Chelemoll (Traditional Place Names of Palau: From Ridge to Reef).' This years' project was to finalize the works of the Society of Historians from the previous years (FY11 draft booklet entitled 'Traditional Place Names: From the Hills to the Shore' and FY12 draft booklet entitled 'Traditional Place Names: From the Shore to the Reef'). No historian sessions took place this year as information was gathered from the previous draft booklets. This project focused on a topic called 'Ngklel a beluu er a Belau er a Rechuodel: Ngar er a Ked el mo er a Kebokeb (Traditional Place Names of Palau: From Ridge to Reef)'. It lists known traditional place names of Palau from the hilltop to the shoreline. Previous ethnographic summaries of the topic were compiled and submitted to the Historians in writing for them to review and edit before the final layout and printing of the booklet. The booklet was further reviewed by long time members of the Bureau of Arts and Culture Technical Review Committee. The BAC Staff Historian also met with key staffs from associated government agencies (PALARIS, Land Court Registry, the Bureau of Marine Resources, etc.), and other respected elders within states as were available to verify the information concerning village and state place names. After the final review, it was finally edited and was made camera-ready for printing. PIE Printing Company printed 300 copies of the booklet. This booklet is the 18th publication on the Traditional and Customary Practices Series published by the Bureau of Arts and Culture." Project funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Palau Historic Preservation Office, Bureau of Arts and Culture, Ministry of Community & Cultural Affairs, administered by the Pacific West Regional Office, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior (grant number 70-13-51964).
