"Why Survey? Our National Constitution Provides (Title 19 of the Palau National Code): to establish a comprehensive historical and cultural preservation program; to maintain a list of registered sites; to conduct a nationwide survey of historical sites and cultural properties; to assist in historical preservation activities; to stimulate interest in historical and cultural preservation; and to compile history and traditional laws and their underlying principles. The Bureau of Arts and Culture protects and preserves the Republic of Palau's cultural and historical resources to enhance, enrich, and foster the Palauan heritage, now and into the future." Project funding was provided by a Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Palau Historic Preservation Office, Bureau of Arts and Culture, Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs, administered by the Pacific West Regional Office, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
