Summary of Achievements: "A major setback prior to the actual rehabilitation was the thick vegetation leading to and on the site. Thick bamboo and vines covered nearly 95% of the site and its major features. The state was able to clear the vegetation and began work shortly after. The project completed on July 2012. The closing ceremony was held on November 15, 2012 at Melekeok State. The state's endurance and persistent effort enabled them to complete the project on time in a satisfactory manner. There were no other major setbacks within and after the duration of the project. The Ngarmecherocher traditional men's group of Melekeok had the proper guidance from the chiefs of Bai Melekeong to aid them in rehabilitating the site. The Bai Melekeong ma ikel Euang el Chades project was very successful as it met the scope of work presented in the grant application as well as the deadline of project completion." Project funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Palau Historic Preservation Office, Bureau of Arts and Culture, Ministry of Community & Cultural Affairs, administered by the Pacific West Regional Office, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior (grant number 70-11-31964).
