The ocean is a noisy place, filled with biological (marine mammal, fish, invertebrate) and environmental sounds. Monitoring this “soundscape” seems to be an important tool to gauge and track animal activity, species presence and diversity, and ecosystem health. Fundamentally, we are seeking to address how the underwater “soundscape” of these reefs can be used to assess the complexity of species assemblages, promote recruitment of healthy reef communities and track human usage of these reefs.
