Art Photography in Samoa: The Outsider's View of the Past and the Insider's View of the Present

2005. Art Photography in Samoa: The Outsider's View of the Past and the Insider's View of the Present. American Samoa Historic Preservation Office, Executive Office of the Governor; American Samoa Community College

After viewing a series of photographs taken by outsiders to Samoa over a hundred years ago, a group of community college photography students took photographs to capture how they see American Samoa today. Their photographs now are in the Polynesian Photo Archives Collection with the older series they viewed, showing an outsider's perspective of the past in Samoa and a Samoan perspective of the present. Project funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund grant to the American Samoa Historic Preservation Office, Executive Offices of the Governor, administered by the Pacific West Regional Office, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
