Somewhere on Earth: Micronesia

2010. Somewhere on Earth: Micronesia. Federated States of Micronesia Historic Preservation Office, FSM National Government; Patly Productions

The islands of Micronesia are vast and largely unknown to the Western world. This documentary focuses on three stories: the ancient city of Nan Madol on Pohnpei and the efforts to preserve and understand it; the traditional status symbols of owning large stone disks on Yap; and a radio network set up and used to communicated with the outer islands of Micronesia for both emergencies and daily bulletins. Project funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Federated States of Micronesia Historic Preservation Program, FSM National Government, administered by the Pacific West Regional Office, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
