This conference was held July 1-3, 2009 in Koror State, Palau. It aimed to examine how natural and cultural heritage studies are relevant to the sociopolitical, economic, and environmental challenges facing contemporary and future Pacific island societies and to propose practical methods for encouraging and developing opportunities for community-based heritage preservation and management. Project funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Palau Historic Preservation Office, Bureau of Arts and Culture, Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs, administered by the Pacific West Regional Office, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
