This article reports on the first comprehensive paleontological resources inventory of Death Valley National Park in 1998. Death Valley preserves an extensive geologic record ranging from Precambrian through Holocene. More than a dozen fossiliferous stratigraphic units have been identified at Death Valley National Park. These formations contain a rich and scientifically significant diversity of fossil plants, invertebrates, vertebrates, and trace fossils.
