This standard operating procedure (SOP) provides instructions for establishing the integrated upland monitoring plot. It includes instructions on layout and marking the endpoints and midpoints of the 3 transects that comprise a permanent upland monitoring plot during the initial visit, as well as guidance for laying out transect tapes during revisits. It also includes procedures for the qualitative assessments of taking photopoints, evaluating site disturbance, and assessing burn severity. Equipment needs for this procedure are listed in SOP #1, Table 1-1. Five datasheets are associated with this SOP: Plot Establishment Datasheet, Plot Visit Datasheet, Photopoint Datasheet, Site Disturbance Datasheet, and the Burn Severity Datasheet. In this SOP we provide Instructions for filling out paper datasheets. As we develop data entry on tablets, data forms are created that are comparable to the paper datasheets.
